Overview: Our organization is seeking a passionate and dedicated Inclusive Community Support Specialist to join our team. As an Inclusive Community Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for diverse individuals and communities in Toronto, Ontario. Your primary focus will be on providing assistance and advocacy to those facing social and economic challenges, aiming to empower them to access resources and opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Community Engagement: Collaborate with diverse communities to understand their unique needs, challenges, and aspirations. Actively participate in community events, workshops, and meetings to build meaningful relationships and promote inclusivity.
Client Support: Provide direct support and assistance to individuals facing social and economic barriers, including but not limited to housing, healthcare, education, and employment. Offer guidance and resources to help clients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
Advocacy: Be a voice for marginalized communities and work towards dismantling systemic barriers. Advocate for policy changes and social reforms that promote inclusivity and equality.
Resource Coordination: Identify and connect individuals and communities with relevant resources, services, and programs offered by the organization and external partners. Ensure clients have access to the support they need to thrive.
Training and Workshops: Organize and conduct workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about inclusivity, diversity, and social justice issues within the organization and the broader community.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions and program activities. Prepare regular reports highlighting progress, challenges, and achievements.
Collaborative Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance the impact and effectiveness of community support initiatives.
Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum of [X] years of experience working in community support, social work, or a related field. Experience with marginalized and vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
A deep understanding of the social and economic challenges faced by diverse communities in Toronto, Ontario, and a commitment to promoting inclusivity and social justice.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of relevant resources and services available to support individuals and communities facing social and economic barriers in the Toronto area.
Experience in advocacy work, community organizing, or policy development would be an asset.
Proficiency in record-keeping and data management to ensure accurate and organized documentation.
Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, sociology, or a related field is preferred.
Fluency in multiple languages is an advantage, reflecting Toronto’s diverse multicultural population.
Working Conditions: This position is a part-time contract role with 15 hours per week. The contract duration is 52 weeks, with the potential for extension based on funding and performance. The role will follow a hybrid model, with some workdays at the office and others with remote or community-based activities. The office is located in Toronto, Ontario.
